Physiotherapy is a means of improving the movements of the muscles, joints and limbs.
It is based on scientific foundations and provides support for traditional medical methods of treatment.
Physiotherapy is a diverse discipline and can subsequently be used to treat a vast range of conditions.
Physiotherapy is commonly used as a rehabilitative measure as well as a means of improving movement and easing pain.
At Barnes Practice, an experienced physiotherapist will assess and diagnose each client.
Massage, applied skillfully, is the most effective therapy for releasing muscle tension and restoring balance to the musculo-skeletal system.
Regular sports massage therapy may help athletes prevent injuries, which might otherwise be caused by overuse.
A constant build up of tension in the muscles from either regular sporting or repetitive daily activity may lead to stresses on joints, ligaments, tendons, as well as the muscles themselves.
An experienced massage therapist will be able to detect variations in the soft tissues and by using the correct techniques, can help the patient maintain a much healthier physical state.
Acupuncture is an alternative medicine methodology originating in ancient China that treats patients by manipulating thin, solid needles which have been inserted into acupuncture points in the skin.
Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS), also known as dry needling is an effective treatment for chronic pain of radiculopathic origin.
According to traditional Chinese medicine, stimulating these points can correct imbalances in the flow of qi through channels known as meridians.
There are different types of acupuncture that have developed over the years.
The Barnes Injection Clinic provides a comprehensive clinical examination which is combined with a diagnostic ultrasound investigation as well as an injection under ultrasound guidance, this will all be provided within the one session.
The session has a clinical consultation included which incorporates a physical examination of the affected area.
This will help the clinician to understand the nature of the problem.
This is followed by a diagnostic ultrasound scan of the area which will provide additional information to help form a clinical diagnosis and to decide if injection therapy is the correct treatment for you.
