The Neurological Practice was formed by Nikki Penny to provide specialist physiotherapy rehabilitation to people who suffer from a neurological condition.
Nikki graduated in 1990 with a BSc in Physiotherapy and has worked as a chartered state registered physiotherapist for the last 25 years.
She quickly developed a passion for neurology and has worked in many neurological rehabilitation units within her NHS career such as Stoke Mandiville Sussex Rehabilitation Centre and lastly became the specialist at the Wolfson Neurological Unit, London.
Due to the sudden need to social distance and home isolation The Clinic has developed a Virtual Neurological Physiotherapy Hub that allows you to continue to access us for treatment that will allow you to continue with your rehab.
Virtual Physiotherapy is a consultation treatment, access to exercise as well as movement classes using a video call system instead of hands on treatment at The Clinic.
The physiotherapy appointment will be taken by your physiotherapist i.e.
For new patients you will be allocated a member of our team to perform the virtual appointment.
A Neurological Physiotherapist is a therapist who specialises in treating patients who have suffered an injury or disease affecting their central nervous system (CNS).
These can include: stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neurone Disease, head injuries, Parkinson's Disease, spinal injuries and other less well known conditions such as: Peripheral Neuropathy and Cerebellar Degeneration.
It is a long list and many of the conditions will affect the way and the ease with which people can move and balance.
Saebo products allow patients to immediately begin performing highly repetitive grasp and release activities.
This enables patients to independently perform deep seated practice outside of therapy sessions.
If deemed appropriate for Saebo, you shall be fitted with and use the product/s along with a discussion on its purpose, effectiveness and requirements for home use.
Constraint Induced Movement Therapy is a treatment technique designed to aid rehabilitation of the arm/hand that has been affected following a stroke or other neurological damage.
This weakness and difficulty of use often leads to increased use of the stronger arm.
Over time this behavior leads to the affected arm being neglected and a pattern of learned non-use is established.
The stronger arm is restrained using a glove or mitt.
This is worn to serve as a reminder not to use it.
The client would then be encouraged to follow a individualized programme of varied exercises and everyday tasks.
