Bodyworks
Welcome to Bodyworks, the physiotherapy and sports injury clinic located in central Winchester. Our Physiotherapists specialise in the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries and movement dysfunctions, as well as general physiotherapy. Bodyworks is a Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic based in Winchester.

Formerly Physical Health Dynamics, Bodyworks Physiotherapist Winchester was established in 2006 by Dr Alison Claire Ryall, known to most as just 'Claire' - a well-known physio in the Winchester area and beyond. Our clients span all age and fitness levels, from elite athletes to senior citizens. We offer specialised physiotherapy treatments for the 'active retired', office workers with neck and back pain and all individuals who want to manage their chronic pain, or are preparing for, or recovering from surgery.

Despite such diversity, all our patients have a common goal - to move with ease. Physiotherapy, along with other specialised treatments we can offer (see below) can make a big difference.
Services
Claire Ryall established a physiotherapy and sports injury clinic in 2005 in response to demand for high quality treatment aimed at injury prevention and performance improvement in elite runners as well as treatment of their injuries.
Her extensive experience in the research and clinical management of spinal pain and upper limb disorders makes for a versatile therapist who enjoys a varied client base.
Claire qualified as a physiotherapist in 1990, after graduating from Addenbrooke's Hospital School of Physiotherapy, Cambridge.
Bodyworks is now offering Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) as a treatment option for some musculoskeletal conditions where other treatments have not been effective enough.
ESWT has been available for some years now, and there is increasing evidence that it can be effective in chronic conditions of the achilles tendons, plantar fasciitis and tennis elbow (see "indications" below).
A special unit is used to generate low-energy sound waves which stimulate the body to heal itself.
I had a machine on loan for trial a few years ago and was very impressed with the results that I observed.
Many of the treatments and special treatments we offer are fairly standard physiotherapeutic treatment modalities but the skill is in knowing when and how to apply them and how best to customize them to each individual client's needs.
For example, Claire will use video feedback to assess and improve running technique dependent on the presenting injury - not everyone is suited to barefoot running or designed to achieve a perfect forefoot strike.
When buying running shoes, it is important to look at total body movement, not just what happens from the knees down.
